COUN 535 Advanced Counseling Skills: Cognitive and Behavioral Techniques (3 credits)
Prerequisites: COUN 503 and COUN 504
Provides students with knowledge of and hands-on applications of counseling techniques commonly used in cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy. Students will gain knowledge of how these techniques are derived from the theories of cognitive and behavioral psychology. They will learn how to use these techniques appropriately in a counseling setting. They will experiment with various techniques in mock practice, plan treatment, and evaluate the effectiveness of that intervention. Finally, they will be able to choose techniques appropriate for a given client and support that choice with knowledge of cognitive and behavioral theory.
