EDUC 571 Foundations of Early Childhood Education (3 credits)

Focuses on the basic knowledge, skills, attitudes, and philosophies related to the field. Students examine the history of early childhood education as well as current developmental and learning theories. The teacher’s role as facilitator of learning for young children is examined. Additional topics include parental education and involvement, developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education, the value of play in the curriculum, and current issues and trends for the future. Field experiences extend students’ awareness of the diversity of programs for young children and develop initial skills in observing young children.
