Associate of Science in Radiologic Science

The Associate Degree Program in Radiologic Science (ASRS) is a 20-month allied health curriculum designed to prepare the student for practice in the health specialty of radiography and lay the foundation for future study in the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science (BSRS) Degree Program.

What Can You Do With This Major?
Radiographers operate x-ray equipment to create images of tissues, bones, organs, and blood vessels within the human body. The images created by the radiographer are then interpreted, and a diagnosis is made by a radiologist, a physician who specializes in interpreting and diagnosing radiographic images.

Our graduates have high success rates passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Examination in Radiography. With ASRS degrees and certifications by ARRT, our graduates can work in many health care settings throughout the entire United States as licensed radiographers. Qualified radiographers are needed in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, public-health facilities, mobile x-ray companies, and industry.

Major Coursework
As a Radiologic Science major, your education will be broadened and enriched by our University’s liberal-arts tradition. You’ll follow a core curriculum of philosophy, religious studies, humanities, and social and natural sciences, and you’ll learn about patient care from a spiritual, ethical, and moral perspective. In addition to patient care issues, you’ll study human anatomy and physiology, biology, physics, and other behavioral sciences.

Real-World Experience
Clinical courses, which begin in the first semester, complement classroom learning and help students prepare for entry-level practice. Your clinical experience will include rotations in community hospitals, medical centers, mobile x-ray companies, and other health care facilities, allowing you to develop clinical skills in a wide variety of health care settings that meet the needs of diverse populations.
