Welcome to the Counseling Center!

The Counseling Center at Holy Family University is dedicated to helping students deal with issues that might interfere with academic performance or a sense of personal well-being.  We seek to holistically educate students on the maintenance of good mental health, knowledge, and skills for healthy living.

College can be a demanding and stressful experience. Balancing academics, athletics, work, family, and a social life is challenging and often requires learning and applying new skills.  Professional counselors are available to help you with your concerns and/or refer you to someone who can provide assistance.

University students visit the Counseling Center for many reasons. In addition to supporting general wellness and healthy living, some of the reasons students seek assistance include:

  • Choosing a major or career path – The Counseling Center and Careers Center often collaborate to assist with decision making around career choices
  • Test anxiety
  • Time management
  • Stress management and relaxation skills
  • Resident Life concerns – The Counseling Center and Residence Life often collaborate to assist with concerns regarding living on campus, living with others, being away from home for the first time, and homesickness
  • Relationship concerns
  • Cultural issues
  • Family issues
  • Alcohol and other drug abuse
  • Sadness/feelings of depression
  • Anxiety/feeling overwhelmed
  • Eating concerns
  • Grief and loss issues
  • Sexual identity and orientation
  • Parenting and unexpected pregnancy support
  • Sexual assault or harassment
  • Sleep problems
  • Anger management
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Risk of self-injury or harm to another
  • Concern about a friend

Professional and experienced counselors are available to address a student’s concerns. Following an initial consultation, recommendations for intervention are provided to the student. The student may choose to utilize the Counseling Center services following the initial consult. However, referrals for services in the community are always provided as complements to, or instead of, campus counseling services.
