Academic Excellence, Real-world Experience
Holy Family’s comprehensive teacher preparation program supports the University’s mission and Christian liberal-arts tradition. In addition to a core curriculum of philosophy, religious studies, humanities, and social and natural sciences, the School of Education emphasizes in-depth study of issues in contemporary education and a constructivist approach to learning and teaching.

As an education major, you will develop and practice teaching skills through our integrated program of specialized course work, field experience, and student teaching. In your sophomore year, you will complete 40 hours of classroom observation in a local school before moving into a supervised practicum in your junior year. As a senior, you will complete a full semester of student teaching and, upon fulfilling the requirements for graduation, you will be ready to complete the Praxis teacher certification exams.

At Holy Family, students actively participate in their learning to reach new understandings, and the classroom environment is hands-on and dynamic. Classes incorporate some of the latest computer and presentation technologies, including remote wireless laptop computers, video teleconferencing equipment, scanners, smart boards, adaptive equipment for special-needs students, satellite connections to remote sites, and more.
