Bachelor
of Science in Nursing (BSN) (Pre-licensure program, contact
BSN Chair)
The BSN degree program educates pre-licensure students to enter the profession
of nursing as beginning practitioners and prepares all graduates (i.e.
pre- and post-licensure) to provide competent and compassionate nursing
care to individuals, families, and communities within the rapidly-evolving
United States health care system.
Graduates of the pre-licensure baccalaureate
program are eligible for licensure in every state in the United States.
Satisfactory performance in the National Council Licensure Examination
for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) as prescribed by the respective state
results in the graduate being known as a registered nurse (RN). Success
on the NCLEX-RN in any state entitles the RN to apply for licensure in
every other state.
Program Goals
- To provide a nursing curriculum that is tailored to current and future
regional health-care needs and issues
- To educate students to assume the role of professional nurse generalist
in a contemporary society
- To educate students to provide culturally competent and ethical care
- To provide a foundation for graduate study
The BSN program at Holy Family University is approved by the State
Board of Nursing and the PA Department of Education. The
program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington,
DC 20036, (202-887-6791).
Program Features
- Enrollment for qualified students in January and September
- Begin clinical nursing courses as a junior-level student
- Full-time day or part-time/evening study
- Supportive classroom environment
- Values-based curriculum
- Low student-to-faculty ratio in classrooms and clinical settings
- Over 80% of classroom instruction by full-time faculty
- Nursing Simulation Center
Program Options
The BSN Program has two study options available to students for degree
completion. Students can choose a full-time day, or a part-time evening/weekend
option.
Full-Time Option
Students who take 12 or more credits and enroll in two
clinical courses during the Fall and/or Spring semester are considered full
time. Full-time students enroll in day classes and complete their clinical
practice on Monday, Thursday, or Friday. Summer clinical courses are scheduled
for students in the evening/weekend program option only.
Part-Time Option
Students enrolled in the evening/weekend part-time program option complete
upper-level clinical courses in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
Evening/weekend students enroll in evening classes and complete their
clinical experience on Saturday. Clinical experience for the evening/weekend
students is sequenced; therefore, a student who misses a semester will
be off schedule and will need a longer time to complete the program.
Summer clinical courses are scheduled for the evening/weekend option
only.
Students may move from one program study option to another with approval.
However, ability to move among the program options is restricted to space
availability. Permission to move from one program study option to another
must be approved by the BSN Chair.
Additional Requirements
Prior to beginning clinical practice, each student is required, as mandated
by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, to present evidence of good
health, proper immunizations, felony or FBI clearance, current CPR certification,
and other affidavits as specified in the health packet obtained from the
BSN Program. Students must carry their own medical and hospitalization
insurance.

ADMISSIONS.
