Program Description
The accelerated RN-BSN program opens several doors of opportunity for the ADN or diploma-prepared nurse. Holy Family University and the School of Nursing recognize the diverse educational and clinical backgrounds of registered nurses and respects their prior learning and educational achievements. Thirty two of the 56 required nursing credits may be transferred from prior University or hospital-based nursing education programs, and over 50 additional credits of the total 122 credits necessary for graduation also may be transferred from previous University study. All prior learning is validated through individual conference and evaluation. Participants in this program will find it to be fast-paced and challenging. Degree candidates should be prepared to work diligently and to benefit greatly as they continue their career with concurrent education for advancement.
The Nursing curriculum focuses on development of management and leadership skills, culture sensitive health care, individual and family assessment skills, and research in nursing practice. Courses will reflect current theories and practices characterizing the world of nursing in today's society. The clinical component of this degree-completion program includes only two practica focused on community-based health care where the development and implementation of aggregate-based assessment and intervention strategies are emphasized. Students work with qualified preceptors under the supervision and guidance of Holy Family University nursing faculty and clinical hours are established at a mutually beneficial time to support the needs of adult learners while fulfilling course objectives.
Each class meets one evening a week, on Saturdays mornings or online for five weeks. All nursing courses can be completed in one year. Course modules and textbooks are obtained in advance in order to complete the required reading and written assignments for the first class meeting.
