HFU Descends to DC for March for Life Rally

march for lifeA group of students, faculty, and staff from Holy Family University will travel to Washington DC on Friday, January 19 for the 45th Annual March for Life event. This marks the 13th year that Holy Family University has marched for the rights of the unborn. The theme of this year’s event is Love Saves Lives.

Sponsored by Campus Ministry, a bus will depart in the morning at 6:30 am and will return by 9 pm. Dinner will be provided. Those interested in registering need to contact Sue Morton at 267-341-3200 or smorton@holyfamily.edu.

The group will first arrive at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, where a “Philadelphia Mass” will be presided over by Archbishop Charles Chaput. The team will later board a bus and move towards the National Mall at 12th Street, where they will begin their march towards the Supreme Court.

“As a faith community led by students from Campus Ministry, our Holy Family University group approaches the March for Life as ‘lived spirituality,’” said Father Jim MacNew, OSFS. “We carry our faith commitment to the dignity of the human person into the streets of our nation's capital in solidarity with 400,000 or more persons committed to a consistent ethic of life from the womb all the way to natural death. For 13 years, Holy Family University students, faculty, and staff have marched in the cold, snow, and rain to live the Gospel into the real world.”

Confirmed speakers include NFL/MLB star Tim Tebow’s mother Pam Tebow, former NFL player Matt Birk and his wife Adrianna, US Representative Dan Lipinski (D-IL), US Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ), Sisters of Life’s Sr. Bethany Madonna, and best-selling Christian music artist Plumb, who will perform for the crowd. The keynote speaker will be Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House.

According to the March for Life website, the event “began in Washington, D.C., as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on the somber anniversary of Roe v. Wade every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand.”
