The Division of Extended Learning has announced this year’s August Weekend Intensives: Negotiating in the Business Environment and Mindfulness. Negotiating in the Business Environment is available to undergraduate and MBA students while Mindfulness is only available to undergraduate students. The Intensives will take place August 10-12, 2018 at Holy Family University’s Bensalem location.
Negotiating in the Business Environment was created by Tom Cinti, a former recipient of the Division of Extended Learning’s Facilitator of the Year award. It provides students with the fundamental skills to become successful negotiators. Students will learn negotiation theory in the classroom and then have the opportunity to apply that theory in role play simulations.
“This Weekend Intensive focuses on all types of negotiation that occur for professionals,” said Chris Quinn, Director of Extended Learning. “It works well for the Division of Extended Learning in that students turn theory into practice in the classroom through role playing. And it demonstrates the Division of Extended Learning's outcomes of praxis. Students are able to apply what they learn in the class to their workplace. The class is an embodiment of what we do here.”
Mindfulness is the act of being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling at every moment without interpretation or judgment. The purpose of this inter-professional course is to learn various mindfulness techniques designed to enhance individual presence and to explore its impact on the teaching and learning process.
“This course explores the philosophical approach of mindfulness—the intense awareness of what an individual is doing at the moment,” Quinn said. “The idea is to use mindfulness in personal and professional settings in order to improve individual stress and interpersonal relationships. We believe the content and readings are timely, interesting, and important.”
