Holy Family University will hold “Literacy Opens Minds”, a conference for the community that focuses on ways to improve reading skills and comprehension in children and young adults.
The conference features a keynote address from highly acclaimed children’s author Sneed Collard III, who has written more than 30 books including one of Booklist magazine’s Top 10 Children’s Science Books - The Forest in the Clouds.
Conference attendees will choose from among 16 workshops on topics such as technology and literacy, adolescent literacy strategies, and the writing process.
The event is on Saturday, October 13 from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Registration is $15 if received by October 12, or $20 at the door. Discounts apply for Holy Family University students.

Workshops are presented by educators and administrators from the following school districts: Central Bucks, Cinnaminson, Council Rock, Pennsbury, Philadelphia, and Upper Dublin.
Many of the professionals presenting workshops are doctoral students in Holy Family University’s School of Education.
Professors from Holy Family University, Penn State Brandywine, Rosemont College and Bucks County Community College will also present workshops.
The conference is sponsored by the Doctoral Program of the School of Education, and Alpha Upsilon Alpha, an honor society of the International Reading Association.
