Glen Foerd-Holy Family University Speaker Series
Join us as Dr. William Blair, Director of the Richards Civil War Era Center, discusses, “Punishing the Rebels: A New Look at the Fourteenth Amendment,” on Thurs., Dec. 3, at 7pm, in the ETC Auditorium, Holy Family University. Despite many advocates for executions, no rebel hanged for treason after the American Civil War. But this does not mean that they escaped punishment. We’ll find the best articulation of how the United States punished the rebels in the Fourteenth Amendment, which channeled the cries for vengeance into a document that met the rituals of a democratic legal culture.
