What Can You Do With This Major?

The Fire Science and Public Safety Administration program is designed to prepare our graduates to advance in the evolving field of public safety. Whether it is a career in the fire service or any number of related fields, the degree in Fire Science and Public Safety Administration is designed to help our graduates compete for a job and then advance in their career.

We are very proud to say that our graduates have advanced not only to the top civil service positions in area fire departments but also to executive positions. The promotional process in career fire departments is very competitive and a degree can be very important. We believe that earning a degree in Fire Science and Public Safety Administration provides our graduates with the knowledge, abilities and confidence to advance in the fire service or a related field. The Philadelphia Fire Department demonstrates quantitatively the value of our degree. Our graduates receive a bonus of one full point on every promotional examination they take.

Our graduates are working in a number of different careers that include firefighter, fire officer, fire chief, code enforcement manager, law enforcement, logistics management, risk management, insurance services and fire commissioner. They are part of a large network of alumni with a record of success in their field. Here are just a few of the positions our recent graduates attained:

Fire Science and Public Safety Administration students can participate in the Experiential Learning program. This is a program that allows students to earn college credit for working and gaining valuable experience in the fire service or in a related field. Our graduates use their experience in the Experiential Learning program to start or to improve their careers.

We conduct a graduate survey every five years. All of the graduates who replied to this survey to date felt that the Fire Science and Public Safety Administration courses helped them with their careers especially the Experiential Learning program. And perhaps most importantly for someone considering this program is that every graduate who has responded to this survey to date stated that they would recommend the Fire Science and Public Safety Administration program to others.
