EDSP 566, Advanced Practicum in Special Education, serves as a supervised field experience at an assigned school site and selected grade level. Aspects of service and education to students with disabilities are explored, including assessment, development of an appropriate individualized education program, on-going instruction, and monitoring of progress. Family involvement and attention to education in the least restrictive environment will be concurrent issues associated throughout the experience.
The Advanced Practicum in Special Education is available to those holding a valid teaching certificate and having completed the prerequisite coursework in Special Education. Candidates are referred to the Graduate catalog for further details.
Clearance Information & Practicum Application
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's School Code requires that students in teacher preparation programs have current background checks. Candidates for Advanced Practicum must have current clearances on file with American DataBank before entering a school building. Students in active teaching positions are exempted from this requirement if completing the Advanced Practicum experience at their place of employment. Advanced Practicum Informational Packet & Application
The Holy Family University student is expected to conduct him/herself in a proper and professional manner whenever visiting a school site and/or interacting with school personnel, students, family members and/or community members. Failure to meet this requirement will subject the student to University intervention up to and including the possibility of removal from the teacher preparation program.
