For a Campus Community Discussion Continuing Series on Race and Racial Justice
"An Exploration of White Racial Identity through The Whiteness Project"
The Whiteness Project is an interactive, web-based collection of reflections in the form of interviews of Americans who identify as white or partially white, and how they view and experience their race. The primary creator and producer is filmmaker, director and producer Whitney Dow. To learn more about The Whiteness Project, please visit: whitenessproject.org.
During this campus discussion, we will collectively view three of the interviews that the Diversity and Inclusion Team has selected for the discussion. Afterwards, attendees will be assigned to breakout rooms to discuss each of the videos—discussion questions will be provided as a guide. Through the lens of participant reflections from The Whiteness Project, we hope to examine more broadly the concept of whiteness and white racial identity and its importance to the conversation of race in America.
After meeting in the breakout rooms, everyone will gather back together to share feedback from each group. It is the goal of the Diversity and Inclusion Team that this discussion can enable our Holy Family community to have more meaningful conversations about race that will lead to demonstrated change that promotes racial equity.
The Diversity and Inclusion Team hopes you will join us for this virtual discussion. Students are especially encouraged to come out and lend your voices and perspective to this very important and necessary conversation.
