Teaching Focus/Philosophy

Dr. Matusiak's research interest and scholarly activities have been in the area of Diversity, Teaching English as a foreign language, and Transcultural Nursing. She holds certificates in Culturally Competent Human Services from the former Multicultural Training and Research Institute at Temple University (1997) and TOEFL certification from Oxford Seminars (2013). Dr. Matusiak has led numerous workshops and conferences nationally and presented on the topic of diversity in the United States and England. She holds a strong belief in the need for faculty to promote excellence among all students, including those who may be linguistically challenged as second language learners or academically underprepared, through the provision of psycho-social and academic supports such as faculty mentoring and academic tutoring and counseling.
