Dr. Menago is a licensed psychologist with 25 years of private practice experience specializing in trauma-focused work, PTSD, and stress management. Dedicated to integrating evidence-based practices with holistic care, she has extensive training in third-wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches, including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Menago translates her real-world experience directly into academic and program development, shaping impactful curriculum that brings practical, hands-on knowledge straight into the classroom to mentor the next generation of mental health professionals.

Research Interests

Her primary research focuses on best practices in higher education, specifically the training of graduate-level students and the design of innovative curricula that produce ethically and culturally competent clinicians in strict alignment with American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation guidelines.

Driven by both professional expertise and lived experience, Dr. Menago also conducts research on best practices for treating complicated grief and loss, with a specialized focus on suicide loss survivors and postvention strategies. Currently, she is collaborating with faculty colleagues on a book addressing the complex ethical challenges inherent in eating disorders treatment.

Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I believe first and foremost it is my responsibility to create life-long learners. Imparting a thirst for the eternal quest for knowledge is a gift that lasts a lifetime. This is accomplished through the artful dance of innovative and creative teaching practices that engage and inspire students to learn about themselves, each other, and society. Students then pass on this knowledge through mindful engagement in the counseling field. I try to instill in our students not only knowledge but also the desire to advocate for social justice and to make a difference in people's lives.
