Research Interests

My research agenda is focused on the treatment of anorexia nervosa.  Specifically, I am examining the dilemmas clinicians face when treating clients who reject treatment, strategies for enhancing treatment of clients with severe and enduring anorexia nervosa, and the impact of anorexia nervosa on parents.  In addition, I am interested in developing and evaluating programs to train clinicians in the evidence-based performance of suicide risk assessment and safety planning.  

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching is to encourage not only formal subject knowledge, but to help students make connections between the course material and real-world practice and apply their knowledge to new situations.  Toward this end, I bring over 25 years of clinical experiences into the classroom to enliven the material and connect it to practice.  In addition, I strive to create a highly interactive classroom environment where students actively participate in their learning and engage their critical thinking and collaboration skills.
