Center for First Generation Students

Center for First Generation Student

The First Gen Center will address several pressing needs. Nearly 40% of Holy Family students are first generation college students who often face unique challenges compared to their continuing-generation peers. These challenges include difficulty financing a college education, limited knowledge about college life, cultural and language barriers, the need to work full- or part-time jobs while in school, and the need to commute long distances to and from campus.

First-gen students are also more than twice as likely as continuing-generation students to leave college within three years. The First Gen Center will provide HFU’s many first-gen students with a wealth of resources that will help them to overcome the challenges they face and ensure that they complete their degrees.
