Recent Alum Dan Grimes, RN, ‘22 Honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Holy Family University fast track nursing graduate Dan Grimes, RN, '22, a nurse at the Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, PA, was the January 2024 recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.  The DAISY Award, sponsored by The DAISY Foundation, is a recognition program that celebrates nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers.  The award thanks nurses, nationally and internationally, for the care and kindness they provide through excellence in compassionate clinical care.

Grimes’ nomination included this comment from one of his grateful patients:

“I wanted to bring to your attention the excellent care I received from one of your nurses. Dan was extremely friendly, attentive, and responsive. I was there for almost a week and found all of your staff to be helpful, but Dan stood out among them. Any problems that came up he fixed promptly, and he made sure to clarify and confirm any questions or concerns that I had about the treatment plan and care I was receiving. I want to let him know how much I appreciate being taken care of by him.”

As the recipient of The DAISY Award, Grimes received a certificate, along with a hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, an Honoree pin, and a banner of congratulations to display in his nursing unit.

Created in memory of Patrick Barnes in 1999, The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award program was the first program of its kind to give patients, families, and co-workers a way to express their gratitude to nurses. Since its inception, the award has been presented to more than 210,000 nurses in over 6,000 healthcare organizations and schools of nursing.
