Holy Family University is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth founded in 1954. The University is a private institution in the Catholic tradition with campus locations in Philadelphia and Newtown PA. The main campus is nestled in the heart of a historic residential neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia that is vibrant and just minutes from the excitement of Center City. Position Summary

The Content Director serves a key role in shaping the university's voice, overseeing content creation across various platforms, and driving effective marketing through compelling storytelling. The Content Director will develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that effectively communicates the university's mission, vision, and strategic priorities to internal and external audiences. Overseeing digital and print communication, including e-mails, social media, newsletters and a magazine, the Director will be integrally involved in writing, editing and scripting special projects such as podcasts and video messages. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, the Director will also be help support communications from the Office of the President.

Direct Reports

The Content Director will manage the Social Media Manager and temporary staff as needed.

Essential Functions

Project Strategy & Management - 40%

  • Collaborate with Admissions and Advancement on marketing and brand execution
  • Determine effective strategies for content dissemination
  • Partner with faculty and other thought leaders on creating thought leadership
  • Integrate social media into all content strategies

Editing - 30%

  • Direct and assist content written by faculty and administrators, and freelance writers including digital material and press releases
  • Maintain a network of freelance writers, copy editors, proofreaders, and fact checkers

Writing - 20%

  • Write content for university magazine and other publications, as well as articles and op ed pieces for local and national publications
  • Support executive communications including speeches, presentations and pitch letters

External Relations - 10%

  • Build relationships with local podcasters, influencers, and journalists
  • Keep a regularly updated list of media contacts, cultivating journalists in digital, print, radio and television as well as social media

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, marketing, or public relations (or a master’s degree in a related field)
  • Experience in content strategy development and execution, preferably within a higher education setting
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences
  • Understanding of digital content best practices, including SEO and social media strategy
  • Experience with content management systems and analytics tools
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community

Work Environment

Operates in an office environment, that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards. Noise level is generally quiet to moderate.

Physical Requirements

Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
