Position Summary
Holy Family University seeks a mission-aligned Institutional Data Developer to advance its digital transformation and data modernization efforts. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications and Data Services, this role is part of the Institutional Effectiveness, Information Technology, and Innovation team.
The position focuses on developing and integrating SQL-based systems and business intelligence tools that ensure scalable, secure, and accessible institutional data. It supports the University’s modernization roadmap and Data & AI Strategy by enabling robust data pipelines, system integration, and analytics infrastructure.
This role drives data-informed decision-making and student success through technical execution and cross-functional collaboration. As part of a growing data engineering team, it offers opportunities for advancement in architecture, analytics, and AI.

Essential Functions

- Design and maintain efficient relational databases, SQL queries, stored procedures, and related objects for mission-critical systems (e.g., SIS, LMS).
- Build and manage scalable data pipelines using SQL, SSRS, and BI tools; support transition to modern architectures (e.g., Tableau, Snowflake).
- Integrate data across platforms (Colleague, Canvas, CRM, HRIS) in collaboration with institutional departments.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency for reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.
- Analyze trends, develop dashboards, and manage operational metrics in collaboration with functional stakeholders.
- Implement and uphold strong data security practices in compliance with FERPA and other regulations.
- Stay current through self-directed learning and professional development.
- Mentor team members and support their ongoing development.
- Report project updates and issues to the Director of Enterprise Applications and Data Services.
- Develop and maintain data marts or semantic layers to enable self-service analytics.
- Partner with Institutional Research to build metadata, data dictionaries, and governance workflows.
- Develop curated data models for stakeholders using tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- Design data pipelines for both on-premises and cloud-native environments (e.g., Azure, Snowflake).
- Automate reporting workflows using version control and CI/CD practices.
- Standardize and structure data to support future AI and analytics initiatives.
- Contribute to data architecture planning and collaborate with IT leadership on infrastructure strategy.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field from an accredited college or university.
- 2+ years of proven experience in SQL development, database design, and database administration, preferably within a higher education or nonprofit context.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Ellucian Colleague and reporting tools like SSRS and Tableau is a plus.
- Familiarity with ETL frameworks, REST APIs, and cloud data services (Snowflake) strongly preferred.
- Exposure to data governance practices, FERPA compliance, and data warehousing concepts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
- Knowledge of higher education analytics workflows, including assessment, accreditation, and enrollment metrics.
- A systematic and thoughtful approach to programming, reporting, and documentation.
- Familiarity with data lake, data mesh, or hybrid data architectures is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage databases, emphasizing data integrity, quality, and efficient processes and mechanisms to store and retrieve data.
- Experience creating end-user reports and data ETL query tools
- Experience with programmatic (e.g., SQL, SSIS, MySQL) approaches to manipulating large datasets.
- Experience with API calls - GET and POST data from other applications
- Knowledge of higher education data management practices and regulations (e.g., FERPA)
- Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures
Work Environment
Operates in an office environment that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature-controlled, and free from hazards. The noise level is generally quiet to moderate.
Physical Requirements
Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
