Orientation - Parent Checklist
Welcome New Tiger Parents!
Congratulations on your student’s acceptance and their decision to come to Holy Family University.
Parents and guardians play a huge role in helping our Tigers prepare for their first semester.
This checklist will help you navigate the transition and support your student in being successful at Holy Family University.

Right After Deposit – January 2026
- Submit student's enrollment and housing deposits.
- Assist student wtih the housing application (if living on campus).
- Help student review financial aid package via Self-Service.
- Ensure student has access to their HFU Google email.
- Review New Student Guide to Technology with your student account.
- Confirm all accounts are functioning or contact IT Help Desk.
- Encourage student to schedule an appointment with their Academic Advisor to register for Spring 2026 classes (registration opens October 30, 2025).
November 2025 – January 2026
- Ensure student registers for our Tiger Immersion/Launch Day: January 8, 2026 (Noon. – 4 p.m.)
- Help them finalize their meal plan selection, especially if they’re a commuter purchasing one.
- Register for access to the Parent Portal - your one-stop shop of important information for Parents and Guardians
December 2025
- Have your student complete the Parking Permit form if they will have a vehicle on campus.
- Help your student pay the spring bill via Self-Service (due by December 15).
- Talk with your student about proxy access (FERPA) to get access to billing or academic information.
- Verify they sent a photo for their Tiger Tag (Student ID) to hfuid@holyfamily.edu.
- Encourage them to download the LiveSafe App and add your contact for emergency alerts.
- Review the Bookstore website together to purchase or rent textbooks and supplies.
- Arrange to have final high school/college transcripts sent to HFU (including any transcripts for dual enrollment credit).
January 2026: Final Prep Week
- Residential students must be cleared by Student Accounts before moving on campus.
- Confirm Tiger Tag (Student ID) pick up (if not already received at Orientation).
- Encourage your student to explore the campus layout & parking.
- Make sure they complete the Fitness Center Access Form to gain access to on-campus wellness facilities.
Remind your student to review and double-check:
- Class schedule (Self-Service)
- Canvas updates
- Any last-minute emails or notifications from HFU
January 8, 2026
Register & attend Tiger Immersion/Launch Day (Noon – 4 p.m.)
January 12, 2026: First Day of Class
Remind your student to:
- Check Google email and Self-Service for updates
- Print class schedule with building & room numbers
- Check Canvas for course announcements and assignments
- Arrive early and allow extra time for parking and finding classes
- Ask for help if needed—staff will be around to assist!
Please note: Holy Family University will be closed December 24 - January 1. Offices will reopen on January 2, 2026.
