Sport Marketing-Management

The Sports Marketing-Management concentration prepares students for an exciting career in the sports industry. The concentration is unique in that it focuses on both the marketing, as well as management, aspects of the sports industry. Students gain a balanced understanding of how these business areas influence the success of a sports-related business. The field is a fast-paced, highly visible one requiring professionals who can analyze situations and make data-based decisions, use mixed media (voice, print, and digital) for communications and marketing purposes, and understand legal issues related to their business. Career opportunities arise in numerous sport-related field—high school and college athletics departments, traditional and digital media, sports retail, and professional sports franchises.

Students in the Sports Marketing-Management concentration also gain from internship opportunities. Students are required to take six (6) credit hours (two semesters) of internships as part of their curriculum. These internships placements provide the students with key skills that set them apart in the marketplace. Prior to starting their first internship course, they are required to design a professional resume, conduct a mock interview with our Career Department, and develop a set of objectives they hope to reach while in their site placements. These placements allow students to see what the sports industry is like and provides them with key contacts which they can use for references after graduation.
