Position Summary

The Mail Services Specialist is responsible for both internal and external mail and package distribution. This position assigns general tasks to work study students.

Essential Functions

Job duties that must be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, and may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.   • Responsible for the pick-up and delivery of the mail to the post office.
  • Responsible for logging and distributing all incoming packages and overnight deliveries.
  • Meters all outgoing mail and prepares all UPS packages for shipping.
  • Collects and distributes all internal mail to the administrative offices and the appropriate collection bins for faculty and dorm.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of bulk mail to the post office as needed.
  • Responsible for tracking maintenance issues and the general care of the university vehicle that is used to transport the mail. This involves notifying the Manager of Print and Mail Services of needed routine maintenance or other maintenance issues.
  • The mail room must be staffed during normal working hours. The associate will manage the schedule accordingly.

Education & Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
  • Experience with the Post Office and/or mail room management.

Work Environment

Operates in an office environment, that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards. Noise level is generally quiet to moderate.

Physical Requirements

Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Lifting is required (60 lbs.)

Certification/Licensure

Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
