Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Digital Experience and Design, the Web Developer & Analyst strengthens the university’s online presence through front-end development, website maintenance, the integration of SEO best practices and data-driven content optimization. The Developer is responsible for maintaining a user-centered, high-performing web experience that advances institutional marketing and engagement goals, while staying current on trends in web design, SEO, accessibility, and user experience.

Essential Functions

Website Maintenance & Updates - 45%

  • Execute timely website updates and development requests from internal stakeholders, maintaining high standards for accuracy and brand consistency
  • Monitor web pages for accuracy, accessibility and performance, and proactively make adjustments and optimizations as needed
  • Perform front-end development using HTML, CSS, and occasionally PHP to develop templates, enhance layouts, functionality, and responsiveness
  • Ensure all updates adhere to the university’s content governance standards and accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1)

Digital Optimization & SEO - 25%

  • Apply SEO best practices to support content contributors and improve organic visibility
  • Research content trends and deliver target keyword insights to writers to guide SEO/AEO-focused content development
  • Use SEO tools (e.g., Google Search Console, SEMrush, Screaming Frog) to identify opportunities and report on site health
  • Develop monthly website analytics reports, providing insights on site usage, engagement, and search performance
  • Support various campus stakeholders in implementing strategies to optimize digital performance and usability

Marketing Technology Support - 25%

  • Support the Marketing department by assisting with the improvement and maintenance of other core digital properties — internal portal, email communications platform, and related digital assets — as needed

Non-Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Any other duties as assigned – 5%

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Three to four years of experience in front-end development, preferably using WordPress and/or Drupal

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS, and a strong understanding of responsive web design and user experience principles
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and tools for keyword analysis, site auditing, and performance monitoring
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Search Console, and Tag Manager
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple requests and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with UX design and research methods
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and/or PHP
  • Exposure to and interest in digital marketing strategies

Work Environment

Operates in an office environment, that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards.  Noise level is generally quiet to moderate.

Physical Requirements

Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer.  Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
